Caroline Kathryn Allen was a taxonomist specializing in the Lauraceae. She served the New York Botanical Garden as Honorary Collaborator in Lauraceae (1951-1959) and as Research Associate (1959-1974). She was born in Pawling, N.Y., daughter of Howard N. Allen, member of the N.Y. State Assembly. Her training was at Vassar and the Missouri Botanical Garden. Her early studies were in Halenia.
